ID-Pod Utilizes Fujitsu's Breakthrough Palm Vein Scanning Technology to Maximize Security in Banking, Financial and Other Applications
Rosh Ha’ayin, Israel, July 15th, 2009 - BioGuard Components & Technologies Ltd., a leading provider of multi-biometric solutions for a wide variety of applications, today announced the introduction of ID-Pod™ and Kee-Pod™ terminals, an advanced biometric authentication system that verifies an individual’s identity based on the unique pattern of veins in the palm.
Combining Fujitsu's breakthrough palm vein authentication technology with BioGuard's compact product design and powerful management software, the ID-Pod and Kee-Pod maximizes accuracy and ease of use for security-based applications.
Highly Accurate, Easy-to-Use and Cost-Effective Biometric Authentication
ID-Pod/Kee-Pod offers the ease of use of fingerprint recognition, with a level of reliability and accuracy that even surpasses iris recognition, considered by many to be the "gold standard" of biometric scanning.
Palm vein scanning technology is highly secure, because the veins are deep within the hand, and are arranged in very complicated patterns which are virtually impossible to reproduce. Unlike fingerprint recognition devices, vein patterns do not leave traces that can be lifted and duplicated. Furthermore, ID?Pod/Kee-Pod terminals utilize "no touch" technology that is not sensitive to skin condition, finger pressure, dirt, etc resulting in superior performance levels. “The market has recognized the need for biometric authentication solutions, particularly in the financial and healthcare industries,” stated NAME, TITLE at Fujitsu. “Through our strategic partnership with BioGuard, we are able to offer a highly accurate, easy to use palm authentication solution at a very attractive price. This solution enables enterprises and organizations to enjoy the benefits of our cutting-edge palm vein scanning technology, together with BioGuard’s proven experience in the development and implementation of innovative biometric identification solutions.”
Delivering Strong Authentication for Banking and Financial Applications
In Japan, palm vein authentication at ATMs has been in use for more than five years, and is now being deployed in over 40 banks. The success of this authentication method has already started to spread to Europe and North America.
ID-Pod/Kee-Pod can be implemented to support a variety of banking scenarios including ATMs, walk-in customers, internal bank security and remote banking for business customers. Using a combination of smart card and palm vein authentication provides the highest level of security to both customers and financial institutions. Even if the smart card is stolen, the account remains secure since authentication also requires biometric identification.
"By the end of 2010, it is expected that palm vein technology will reach massive deployment levels in the banking sector in Europe and elsewhere," stated Ephram Yeashoua, Esq.
President and CEO of BioGuard. "Banks and financial institutions are making large IT investments, particularly in the area of security, in order to mitigate loss due to fraud, increase customer retention, and create a competitive edge. Our ID-Pod/Kee-Pod solutions meets the banking sector's needs for a highly secure, contactless and customer-friendly authentication device."
In addition to the banking and financial sector, ID-Pod/Kee-Pod delivers unsurpassed security for a wide range of physical access and logical access applications. These include access control in resort villages/wellness centers, casinos and amusement parks; cashless payment in kiosk terminals; access to private patient data in hospitals and clinics; physical access to sensitive areas and facilities; and logical access (single sign-on) to enterprise systems and databases.
Flexible Choice of Deployment Architectures
ID-Pod™/Kee-Pod™ encrypts the captured vein pattern images and stores biometric templates on a smart card or in a biometric database, depending on each organization's deployment needs.
Storing the biometric template on a smart card ensures compliance with privacy laws in countries that prohibit maintenance of biometric databases. In deployments where the encrypted biometric templates are stored in a central database, organizations may take advantage of ID-Pod's optional keypad and proximity card reader options (Kee-Pod) for user identification. ID?Pod can perform both 1 to 1 (if user identity is known) and 1 to N matching of the user's encrypted biometric template to the database.
