Using biometrics applications, the passports are being converted into electronic passports, by embedding biometric samples in the form of a computer chip on them. Every passenger undergoes a biometric verification by allowing the airport authorities to match his live biometrics samples with those already recorded in the biometrics template database.
Apart from providing high-level security, biometrics for border control offers other advantages like fast immigration procedures and maintenance of passenger database, which can’t be tampered by ill-minded people.
Biometrics at airport has registered itself as a healthy exercise to thwart various security issues. Though, criticism from different corners has been received, but the day is not far away, when the technology will be accepted without any conflict.
